I know that in many parts of the country kids are already out of school for the summer. Here in Southern California many of our kids continue with school until the end of June and don't start back until mid-September. Nonetheless, it is hot as hell here now! It was a toasty 95 degrees at my house yesterday and is predicted to be even hotter this weekend. I know people from other parts of the country probably assume Southern Californians spend every day at the beach. Unfortunately, real life intervenes … as nice of an idea as that is.
We only live about 20 minutes from the beach, but the climate at my house is much hotter than the beach. (BTW, I apologize in advance that the photos in today's post are unedited. We are having some computer problems.) There's a little lake straight below our fence that I have shown before. However, this is what we look at from our backyard:
I always know, regardless of the calendar, when summer has arrived because it is signaled by our Golden Retriever jumping into our pool. He loves it if you will throw a ball for him so he can go for a swim, but if you aren't around he will pick it up with his mouth and throw it in himself. Our Chocolate Lab, on the other hand, is terrified of the pool. These are some photos from yesterday – the Golden's first official swim for Summer 2008.
We have tried to keep him out of the pool, but it is useless!
You can hardly blame him when it is so cookin' hot out there!
Almost one full lap ….
Our pool has a ramp (a very fake "beach") entrance that he thinks was built just for him as an easy pool exit ramp!
He is always so proud of himself for retrieving the ball. Regardless of the fact that he often throws it in himself.
He just can't get enough of this and will retrieve a ball for hours upon hours. This last photo is a shot of him begging for PR to throw the ball for him … just one more time!!
I guess it doesn't matter that the kids are still in school, or that it's only May. If the dog is in the pool – summer has arrived.
