Expect the Unexpected

Here’s a picture of my dad.

Gramps

He’s in his late 70’s.  I could write for months about my dad and you would think I was fictionalizing his life, but there would be no need to.  He is “a character” by some people’s standards.  He can make my kids laugh like nobody’s business one minute and the next be explaining in depth physics concepts to them and they are fascinated.

The one thing you can count on with him, is that you never know what will happen when he’s around.  There is no controlling the man.  While on our vacation I left for 5 minutes and came back to find PR (age 13) smoking a cigar with his Grandpa.

My dad is sort of the opposite – he’ll ask my permission before giving the kids ice cream. I’m like “Dad, you’re their grandpa. You’re supposed to spoil them. Don’t ask!”
Of course, if he asked whether he could give them a cigar, I’d probably say no. Cigars are for celebrating new babies!

My mouth is hanging open right now…can’t seem to release my jaw…
That is one of those times when I would NOT have been okay with what my father was giving my kids. Of course, my father doesn’t smoke cigars and is much like “dadshouse” -asks about everything.

Too funny! Cute kid. It’s not like he’s going to become a cigar addict after taking a puff or two, hanging out with Grandpa. It reminds me of Mitch Hedberg and his comedy routine about going into a store to buy cigars and he asks for the “It’s a boy” brand.
