Off to the Races!

For several years I've been meaning to get down to the Del Mar Race Track in San Diego County.  Just about everyone I know has gone to the races, and has reported back on how much fun they've had.  For some reason, my plans have never come to fruition.

Because of that, I was absolutely THRILLED to receive an invitation from Del Mar Race Track to come down and join several San Diego Bloggers for a family day at the races.

My very first trip to the races!

This is a photo I took with my webcam as I was headed out the door:

The laundry basket in the background is a nice touch, don't you think?

I picked up my friend Nike and we began the drive towards Del Mar.  I live about an hour north of San Diego so it was an easy drive.  (Also?  Nike and I can talk for hours and drive time makes for a great chance to get caught up!)

Here's a photo of Nike once we arrived at the track:

Nike
I hope each and every one of you is lucky enough to have a friend like Nike during your lifetime.  We've been friends for about 16 years I think and she's the greatest.

Nike took this photo of me shortly after we arrived:

Races2

Do you think having my hands on my hips hides their largeness?

No?

The horses were so beautiful.  They took my breath away.

Horse

I got to meet a lot of wonderful San Diego bloggers including my long-time Internet buddy, San Diego Momma.

Deb
I can't wait to spend more time with her when we go to New York in a week or two.

Oh, and did I mention the actual races?

Race3
The races were fun, exciting … and the horses were majestic.

It was such a fun experience!

I only bet on two races.  During one race I bet on Talktoomuch and won $4.00.  In the next race I bet on Winsome Charm and won around $11.50.  I know nothing about horse racing and I placed my bets based entirely on the horses names.  I was SO excited to win even though it was only a small amount of money.

Winnings
All in all, it was really a fun day.

Nike and I drove back to Orange County and then stopped for a margarita and some ceviche for dinner.

Margaritas are their own separate food group, aren't they?

Well, if not, they ought to be.

I had such a good time, I'm really (!) looking forward to going back for another fun day at the race track soon.

Love the girliness of these photos, and I think the person leading that horse needs to put hands on the hips to hide their largeness? Ya think?
    You look fabulous dahlink!!

I had no idea we had horse races. I am sitting here in shock and awe. I clearly need to get out more.

So much fun was had! Very happy to finally meet you and? Nike is awesome.
Also…in a fit of narcissism, I just want to say that my shirt made me look enormous. Like enormously enormous.
But that’s not important right now.
Can’t wait to hang in NYC!

Like you I have never been to Del Mar. It is supposed to be so much fun. Do all the ladies wear hats?

  5. Kelly

You are BEAUTIFUL! Love the hat, love the big smile on your face. Looks like such a fun day!

If they’re not their own food group they’re part of the FRUIT food group because of the limes (or strawberries). So – it’s all good.

I think you looked fab. Royal Ascott next! I have only been to the races once, and I thought it was great fun.

    Suzanne, would you mind letting us (or me, at my e-mail) know where your black dress is from? I’ve been wanting a longer black dress that isn’t too low-cut. Yours looks so comfy. I’ll just be sure to wear undies. (;
