Purple, Purple, And More … Purple!

I hope everyone had a nice weekend.

I spent the last couple days taking care of a very sick kid.  Apparently there's some type of summer stomach flu going around.  I thought we were going to end up in the ER at one point, but he's doing much better now.  Poor kid – it was a tough few days.  He was really, really, sick.  Please keep your fingers crossed I don't catch it this week as I get ready for, and depart to, New York.

The BlogHer conference is a Big Deal in the Internet world.  A lot of women dress to impress.  They're attending the conference looking for the biggest and best opportunities they can find.

Don't get me wrong, I like opportunities too.  The car accident just changed my perspective a lot.  Life is short and can change on a dime.  I'm at a place in my life where it's also about having fun and, most importantly, being myself.

With 2,400+ people hanging out together, I figured purple streaks in my hair would help me stand out in the crowd.   Last year I put in pink/fuschia streaks, but this year I'm feeling purple.

What do you think?

The purple will wash out in a few weeks and then I'll return to my normal blonde locks.

I have to say, I don't think there are any other women with purple hair around here.  It isn't a popular look in the Money Town area.  Most of the women where I live look a lot like The Real Housewives of Orange County.  Oh wait, they ARE The Real Housewives of Orange County.  How could I forget?

Is it any wonder I don't fit in?

On Sunday I ran a few errands and then stopped into a Money Town salon to get a pedicure.  (The talons growing out of my feet were getting a little dangerous, and besides, I HAD to get purple toenail polish to match my purple hair, right?)

In any case, my purple hair caused quite a stir everywhere I went.

The thing about having purple hair, is – I keep forgetting I have it.

People stare at me and I think, "What are they staring at me for?"

Later, I catch a glimpse of my reflection in a window and think, "Ohhhh, THAT!"

It's become an interesting study in human nature.  Some people stare, some comment, some send me scornful looks.

Hey you, Money Towners ….

Have a sense of humor!

Lighten up!

Life is short … why not have some fun?!

track down a bottle of Spa Ritual polish, color name “Disco Inferno” the very most awesomest shade of purple EVA!!!!

  2. Michelle

very gorgeous hair. I would love to do that with my hair, but it is (or should be) chocolate with tinsel (as I said, it should be) and don’t think it would show. But it looks great on you.

I’ve never had the balls to try purple, pink, blue or green. You look like a rainbow Dahlink!

I think the purple hair will stand out in NY as well 🙂 What fun! My kids had that stomach flu thing a couple of weeks ago (and I ended up getting it too) but it wasn’t as bad as what it sounds like your little guy had. Glad he’s feeling better.

As luck would have it, I also settled on the purple for the toes. 🙂
    LOVE the hair!

  6. sherendipity

    I love it.
If I had light coloured hair, I would be changing the hue of the tips on a regular basis.
Purple one week, red another, navy when I’m feeling sassy…you name it.

  7. Anne

It looks great. All those people are looking at you because you look so fabulous!

I just got purpled, too! Except I have really dark hair, so it’s not nearly as brave or as impressive as what you’ve done. And I keep doing the same thing, being surprised by my reflection. Mine only really shows up when the sun hits it, though, so I only get that jolt of surprise when I’m heading back into the house and I see myself in the sliding glass door.
Congratulations on your new look — it really is awesome.

Actually I also have pink and purple hair and have done so for years. You won’t be the only one at BlogHer with purple hair.

  10. DuchessOmnium

Almost 20 years ago I spent a really long time trying to make my hair purple. But in those days I don’t think anyone believed someone asking for purple really meant it (I did). The best I ever achieved was a kind of plummy dark brown — most disappointing. I like yours much better.
Enjoy the conference, and don’t get sick!

It looks awesome! Don’t worry about the stares, they’re all just jealous you have the cajunas to be YOURSELF, something they long ago forgot how to be!
    You rock that purple hair!

  12. Cheryl at Circus Living

You do realize that you’re really not that original AT ALL, right? Do you know Mojito Maven? She’s been doing this for YEARS and now you just look like a follower. She’ll be at BlogHer, maybe you should say hi and fawn all over her purple hair cause frankly you look stupid. Plus you’re freaking old. Stop bragging. It’s annoying.

  13. Jaysey

If I did that, I’d lose my job (the red that came out kinda pink was really pushing it!), but I’m not gonna lie: I wish I could. I think it looks great! Have fun! And keep living life!

  14. Sandi

Cheryl needs to learn how to be polite.
    Suzanne you look amazing.
I wonder what color of hair Cheryl has? If it’s short and blonde is she copying Dooce? If it’s long and red is she copying Ree?
There are only so many colors of hair…..
    Some people!!

  15. Redneck Mommy

I think you inspired me. Since you did purple, I think I’ll get blue on Friday. You look amazing. You purple hair follower who is too old for anything fun, you.

  16. Tami

I think the purple looks awesome on you! You’re so beautiful. I think Cheryl (her real name?) must be jealous. How many people look like you? You are delightful inside and out. Also, you’ve been through SO MUCH and you can damn well do whatever makes you smile. You’ve earned it. If you want to paint your skin purple to go to nyc you should. Cheryl needs to see a shrink. She’s got something seriously wrong with her.
PS I love seeing all the big bloggers here supporting you. redneck mommy, backpacking dad, neil, lucky thirteen, anns rants. You’ve got FRIENDS girl!!

  17. Paula

Did 24 say she was original and invented purple hair?
    I don’t think so.
What difference does it make if she does or doesn’t know your friend?
If you knew 24 even a little bit you wouldn’t call her a follower. She marches to the beat of her own drummer and that is why we all love her so much.
How would you know how old 24 is?
As far as I know, she is TWENTY FOUR.
Also you said “stop bragging” and I don’t see where 24 has bragged anywhere.
EVER. And I have been reading here for at least a year and a half.
Now go home, search your soul, and figure out how you turned into such a despicable person.

  18. Jason

I say good for you, I like the way you are expressing yourself, and I think you’re amazing. I’m so glad I know you.
I hope you have a fantastic, amazing time at Blogher. Even without Sandi.

  19. Auntiecc

    1. I love the purple.
    2. I’m glad your son is feeling better.
    3. I love trolls. They make me laugh.
    4. When the trolls come out you know your blog is better than theirs.

  20. WebSavvyMom

–>I love that you go so bold with the purple. If I were going to BlogHer I’d be trying to find you regardless. Have a great time!
