Knocked Flat on my Ass

A lot of people I know have been really sick lately.

*Ahem*  *Nike*  *Ahem*

On Friday, it hit me too – suddenly and hard.

But, earlier in the week, before it did?

I met Nike for coffee and girl time.

I went to the Money Town car wash.  I snapped this photo (with my blackberry, through my car windshield) just for you:

It kind of sums up the OC.  The S-Class Benz (which seems to be about the only car on the road around here), and the woman with the fake boobs sticking  STRAIGHT. OUT. FROM. HER. CHEST.

I'm sure she's a really nice person.

I really don't fit in here.

Anyway, back to my whining.

I know you came here to listen to me whine, right?

I've been running a high fever for four days now.  I alternate burning up and having the chills.  I have a really bad sore throat, and no voice.  (I think, perhaps, my family doesn't mind the no-voice part.)

I have the most horrendous cough I've ever had.  I sound like a foghorn, amplified.

I got a flu shot this year.  I'm sure it's not the flu.

Briefcase thinks I have pneumonia.  (I've had it before, and once you've had it you're more susceptible to getting it again.)  I don't think I do, but quite honestly … I'm sicker than the once-upon-a-time when I did have it.  In fact, this is the sickest I've been in a zillion years.

I had a bottle of antibiotics here from one of my surgeries.  I began taking them on Friday.  I don't think they're strong enough.  Saturday found me seriously considering whether anyone has ever died from a high fever and cough.  OK, so that's a little dramatic (or, perhaps, a little fever-induced delusional), but at that point I was wallowing in my misery.

I'm going to try to get in with a doc today.

I wish I could say I've been sleeping a lot, but I'm coughing too much to get sleep.  I'm exhausted.  I'm miserable.

Whine, whine, whine.

I've been streaming a lot of Netflix movies (via our Wii) in an effort to distract myself.  I've got to say, I'm a huge Netflix fan.  If you've got any favorite movies to recommend, list them for me in the comments section.  I'm watching movie marathons until I feel better.  I'm actually really behind on my movie watching – so there's a positive … I'm getting all caught up with everyone else now.

Of course, Briefcase is out of town for a week.  And, oh yes, I have both morning AND afternoon carpool for PR this week.

Of course I do …

I almost never have BOTH morning and afternoon carpool in the same week.  (Two different groups of kids … the afternoon group is all smelly! baseball players.)  It only happens when I have a fever over 102 and a cough that will scare the bejeezus out of the kids I'm driving.

That's the way things always happen around here.

Hopefully I'll be feeling better by tomorrow.  In the meantime, I apologize for being Debbie Downer today.  Or Wendy Whiner.  Whatever!

At least I shared a photo of a Money Town woman with you, right?

P.S.  If you'd like to drop off groceries for PR, or soup for me, I won't turn you away.  Can you believe the kid actually wants to eat?

P.P.S.  Just kidding.

P.P.P.S.  Sorta.

RSV Bronciolitis is all the rage round here, absolutely EVERYONE has it, or had it, and will run from you if you have it. I spent New Years weekend , on airborne (helps you fight it) Alka Seltzer nightime cold and flu fizzies, and sleep, lots of sleep. I wound up taking antibiot6ics too, to keep respiratory infection away same as you. I had Keflex and took 1000mg to start and 500 twice a day. Good luck, but the doc is going to tell you to sleep, eat and wait, at least that is what everyone says they were told. Hope you feel better. (PS, this flu-bug isn’t covered by the flu shots, I guess)

I never get flu shots anymore, because the only time I come down with the flu is when I get a flu shot. Take at least 6000IUs of vitamin D and 1000mg of vitamin C and get to a doctor. STOP the antibiotics – if what you have is viral, they won’t do a thing for you except make you dehydrated.
I hope you feel better soon. They have the first 2 seasons of Dexter in Instant Play if you haven’t seen it. Seriously good show.

Once you get through this I would suggest you get a pneumonia shot. I had one many years ago, and after having it did not get another cold for over a decade. I highly recommend the shot to anyone who is susceptible to getting pneumonia…. just my two cents. 🙂

I have no advice, but just wishes that you feel better soon! It sounds horrible!
I recently watched and loved Julie and Julia and The Way We Were. 🙂
    Get well soon!

  6. Laura

Oh honey if I still lived there I would so deliver. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

I’ll bet those moms would gladly switch carpool with you rather than have you infect their kids by coughing in a closed area with them. Also, I know whooping cough is really going around since some stupid moms won’t get their kids vaccinated. Adults generally have lost their immunity from childhood shots, so it could be that.

Ask the doc for codine cough syrup so you can sleep at night without coughing. Seriously it helps. I just make chicken noodle soup yesterday. I can drop it off – no problem.

–>I know from Twitter, that you’ve discovered Dexter. The Best.
I just watched the first season of Mad Men on demand with Fios.
Another one I’m going to try is Arrested Development from Netflix.
    Hope you feel better!

I second the recommendation for a good cough syrup with codeine to help you sleep, and I hope you are feeling better soon. Being sick sucks. I would volunteer to swing by with a delivery but I can’t risk picking up any germs because I’m prepping for my next surgery (getting a new hip for Valentine’s Day).

Hi there Amy in stl, just wanted to let you know that I am one of those stupid moms who doesn’t vaccinate their kids. I know you don’t care to know why, but its because my oldest daughter has permanent neurological damage from a vaccine injury. The kind that causes severe learning disability, daily seizures, and sensory problems. My cousins child had a similar reaction. We will never have healthy children again. Bye now.

Everyone I know has been sick too. Seems to last for weeks. Hope you feel better soon. Stupid in oc seems hyper-defensive! To each his own –

You need to get to a doctor, asap. My mom had pneumonia last year, and didn’t even know. She ended up in the hospital for a week after trying to take leftover antibiotics at home. Tsk tsk!! 😉 Seriously, get checked out. And feel better!
Oh, and I go to that carwash in LF. Last time there were about 6 Range Rovers mixed in among the various Benz’s. It’s a great place to people watch, that’s for sure. They take f-o-r-e-v-e-r to wash cars there, though.

ACK! Take care, yes people do die from what you have! get your butt to the docs! Also I loved “Pressure Cooker”, great true story.

Aww- 24- she just had a Spanx Bra-llelujah on. LOL Feel better!

So sorry to hear you’ve got what everyone here in the Midwest has! Nasty stuff. Definitely see the doctor for meds. Also, movies? I’m an older movie fan, not necessarily old movies though Cary Grant is dreamy and so funny. But for a couple of chick flicks you might enjoy while Briefcase is out of town – Calendar Girls with Helen Mirren (a hoot because they’re as far from Money Town women as you can get and not afraid to flaunt their goods), Under the Tuscan Sun, Doc Hollywood (because I love Michael J. Fox)and Overboard which I’m compelled to watch every time it’s on and my all time favorite, Dirty Dancing because Patrick Swayze is just darn good to look at.
