Whew – !!
We’re having quite a heat wave.
My oldest (college-aged) son spent a good deal of his summer working in New York, various locations in The South, and Florida.
He tells me our heat wave weather is “fantastic.”
Our conversation took place when I questioned his sanity for sitting out by the pool, in full 100+ degree sun.
“At least it’s not humid,” he said.
“It’s so humid, I can’t handle being outside,” I replied.
Is it possible he’s already no longer a real Californian??
He also regaled me with Florida stories of mosquitoes “bigger than any mosquito you’ve ever seen, Mom.”
(As an aside, have you see Saturday Night Live’s series of skits The Californians? The skits are SO funny, but should maybe have been titled The Los Angelinos. Perhaps they’re only funny to those of us who live here and see the truth in them??)
In any case, it’s SO hot here …
How hot is it?
It’s hot enough that Doc, my golden retriever, jumped in the pool for a short swim and then came right back into the air conditioned house.
Normally, we can’t get him OUT of the pool in hot weather.
It’s that time of year when night swims are really best, for all of us.
Here are a couple photos to keep us cooler … at least, in our minds -
The lifeguard vehicle/jeep parks on the pier in San Clemente.
If you have to be out in the sun working, I can’t imagine a better place to do it than the beach.
Riding a jeep up and down the sand all day would be pretty fun.
Below, is a view from the pier back towards the city of San Clemente.
It’s such a pretty town.
A few days ago, I was also able to catch a very magical sunset in Newport Beach.
We’ve had so much more moisture in the air lately (humidity/monsoon season), it has created some amazing sunsets.
For whatever reason, we’ve been getting a lot of very PINK sunsets (instead of gold tone sunsets).
I’m sure there’s some meteorological reason for it,
But to me …
They are just another magical encounter to attempt to capture with my lens.
