Carolina On My Mind

I really wish I’d been able to spend more time in North Carolina.

When I arrived, it was hot and summery.

A short while later, we drove directly into a fierce lightening storm.

We rarely get lightening in Orange County, so it was VERY exciting for me.

After the lightening, the rain came down in buckets.

Eventually, we drove through the storm – which was a good thing.

(I’m not used to being in such bad driving conditions.)

There are so many trees in North Carolina.

Green, green, green!

(Our freeways look a LOT different in Southern California … they’re six lanes wide in each direction and all concrete and pavement.)

In some areas, the trees were starting to turn.

I took all the above photos through the car windshield.

I can’t imagine how beautiful it will be in 2-3 weeks as all the leaves turn colors.

I love fall.

I wish we got fall weather and pretty fall colored trees here.

It was 106F/41C at my house in Orange County yesterday.

Every Fall I consider going somewhere to see the foliage. It is SO HOT again this week. Ugh.

Did you have some NC barbecue? I remember that, the people being very nice, and lots of smokers. Hopefully that has changed.

I did see some people smoking, but not as many as I’ve seen in recent visits to NYC and Boston. The heat has been unbearable lately. I’m ready for a change!
(And yes, I was treated to HOMEMADE NC BBQ my first night in the state!)

106? Egads. Well, you’ll be happy in mid-February, when those of us with the pretty fall colors now are freezing our tookus’ off.

I keep telling myself that … it’s pretty unbearable right now.
At least it’s a dry heat.

–>I’m planning my next business trip to Raleigh this month and trying to time it for the trees changing colors. It makes the 3-hour drive so much nicer from Virginia.

I bet it will be beautiful.
I’d love to see Raleigh someday.

I lucked out with the beginning of fall colors in Illinois last week. So different from only the golds of our aspens.

Suzanne, you’re making me homesick. I was born and raised near Charlotte and my brother currently lives in Asheville. I need to go home! I was in Asheville last year for Ocktoberfest and had a blast. My four-year-old nephew kept saying, “I’m going to stay up ALL night!” It’s a wonderful city.

      I’m sorry!
I SO want to visit Asheville! Maybe in the spring.
NC is such a pretty state!
