My Real Life

I’ve been insanely busy lately.

I knew I was overbooked for a few weeks in October, but … oh my!

My life has been moving at such a fast pace lately, I’ve finally accepted I need to hire someone to help me.

Hiring help is something I’ve been told I NEED to do (by Dr. Painless) for quite a long time.

I’m such a perfectionist, it’s hard for me to let go of anything.

I’m absolutely thrilled my art work is selling well, but I’m having a hard time being everywhere at once.

I think I need a person who can be both an email screener and a photo assistant.

Is there such a person?

Are you ready to take a look into the random stuff going through my head right now?

•  Woo hoo – there’s a new Go Pro camera out (just in time for the holidays!) and I wrote about it here.  Atheletes, teens, and out-doorsy folks love GoPro cameras, and so do I!

•  Prizes have been ordered and/or shipped to all the winners of my photography-related contests.

•  I have a serious copyright infringement issue I’m dealing with “behind the scenes” right now.

•  I hate legal issues.  Can’t everybody just obey the laws (and stop stealing!) so the lawyers run out of work?

•  I’ve been wearing my new IntelliSkin products for a portion of every day.  (I have a zippered sports bra and a zippered shirt.)  I bought the zippered option of each, because the product is made to fit very, very, tight.  Putting it on without a zipper would be impossible for me with my bum arm.  Yes, I do feel the additional support (and stabilization) of my arm and shoulder is helping me.  Because my body is such a mess from the accident, I’m slowly (!!) increasing my IntelliSkin time each day.  I haven’t worn IntelliSkin shooting yet, but I will within the next week.  (I have the body of an overstuffed sausage, so I wear it UNDER a t-shirt — you’re very welcome!)

•  I will be in Austin, TX on November 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.  Let me know if you’re in the area and would like to connect!

•  Pomegranates are back in season!  Some of you might remember I became addicted to them last year.  (An unknown stalker even left me mysterious pomegranate gifts.)

•  I did a lot of baking this week.  RC was celebrating his birthday and I wanted to send a big care package to him.  It’s hard being so far away for college sometimes.

•  I think it hit 100F at my house again yesterday.  I’m ready for summer to be over ….

•  For some reason, Nike and I thought it would be a good idea (in the name of exercise) to go our for a lengthy walk up steep rocky inclines in the heat yesterday.  (???)

•  I bet many of you don’t know photos need to be edited one way for being viewed on the web, and another way for printing.  (That means, every print I sell gets my loving attention at least twice.)

•  I’m visiting with New PT again today.  I really need to come up with a blog name for him.  The problem isn’t actually in trying to think of a nickname for him.  Instead, the difficulty is in narrowing down the endless possibilities he provides me with.

I showed a thumbnail of the print I won, with a link to your store… is that OK, or did I do wrong??should I remove it??

    • Suzanne

      No, that’s absolutely fine joanne.
The problem is with people who try to make money from my work … people/business/cities who steal my photos off the web and try to pass them off as their own for financial gain.

Never heard of Inteliskin, but if it works go for it.

I’d have a hard time letting go to an assistant also.

    • Suzanne

I don’t think IntelliSkin is a miracle maker, but I do think it’s a good aid for me. Kind of like wearing a brace for extra help, but more comfortable and easier to move in.

Wow – I’m so glad your work is selling so well you can hire an assistant! I’ll keep my fingers crossed that this trend continues, because I’m willing to bet you could use someone to help you take care of the house and cooking, too.

    • Suzanne

Yes, I’ve been very fortunate with my business.
And yes, I could use help … in just about every aspect of my life.
I’m sure that’s true for most women – fully functioning, or not.

I bought a GoPro last month. Dang why didn’t I wait. The new one looks great. Best of luck finding an assistant! If nothing else he/she can handle your e-mail freeing you up to do what you love….shooting pictures.

I’m sure you will get a lot of use out of your GoPro.
I think they’re the greatest gadgets! So handy to have around and SMALL.

Yes, I’m drowning with work lately. It really is a GOOD thing, but there are only so many balls I can juggle … especially one handed! : )

      I wish I still had a tree.
Maybe I’ll plant one in the spring ….

Wishing you much success at hiring someone trustworthy who meets and exceeds your needs. I’d be perfect for the job as you know *cough* but much too far away. So jealous you have a GoPro!!!

  6. Suzanne

Wouldn’t that be fun if you lived closer? : )

The GoPro is great – in my case, mainly for the water and waves!

OMG! I can’t believe you are going to be in Austin the first weekend in November and I will be in PHX helping my mom after my dad’s hip replacement surgery. I am seriously bummed that we cannot meet my namesake. If you are looking for ideas for things to do and see in Austin and the surrounding area I would be happy to make a few recommendations.

Definitely check out the food trailers, 6th street after 9 pm for the bar/party scene (strictly for action shots I’m sure!), Lady Bird Lake, South Congress (cool, funky shops and more food trailers). the capital building is a MUST as the inside is spectacular and you will get some beautiful photos. the Governor’s mansion just reopened a few months ago after a devastating fire and everything has been restored to it’s original splendor. Not sure about tour times, but can check into that if you are interested.

I hope you like Austin and will come back between March & April when the wildflowers will absolutely blow you away. I was ready to leave TX and never come back and then experienced the most spectacular wildflowers I have ever seen before. The colors come in waves. First the bluebonnet, then the Indian paintbrush, Indian blanket and then a myriad of colors spanning the rainbow.

And of course you MUST have some authentic Texas BBQ (more like smoked meat) that will make you weep with joy. Unless of course you are a vegetarian. More likely you will be weeping in sorrow.
