I’ve never imagined actually going to a professional tennis tournament.
I don’t know why not?
I used to play a lot of tennis.
I like tennis.
But, to be honest, I haven’t thought much about tennis since The Car Accident.
I had an opportunity to go to the men’s semi-finals at the BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells Tennis Garden last Saturday.
(That? Is a loooong name!)
I was excited from the very beginning, because I got to walk through a tunnel to get there.
Tunnels are fun!
Do you like tunnels too? Or am I the only one?
I love tunnels!
Once I walked through the tunnel, I immediately started checking out what people wear to a tennis tournament.
It was a REALLY hot day to be sitting in a stadium.
Smart people had hats.
Everyone wearing a hat in the above photo is officially declared SMART.
Of course, my favorite (very old) hat was en-route to Australia for repairs. (I know that sounds very strange, but the hat was made in Australia and that’s where they repair them.)
My other hat was in my car.
I wasn’t the one who drove to the tournament so having a hat in my car did me no good whatsoever.
Luckily, I did have a lot of sunscreen with me.
(It’s a good thing too – I would have been crispy fried without it.)
In a very smart move, BNP sells hats right at the stadium.
(For people who forget theirs in the wrong car?!!)
I saw one very well-prepared woman in the bathroom putting cold water on washcloths.
One cold/wet washcloth went around her neck and the other went under her hat.
“Smart idea,” I said to her.
“Blah, blah, blah,” she replied to me in French.
(Um, I wish I spoke French??)
I think she might have said, “It’s hot as f*ck today, isn’t it?”
This is Juan Martin Del Potro:
I was cheering for him – and he won his semi-final!
(It was really exciting to watch!)
This is Rafael Nadal.
He’s also known as Rafa.
People in the stadium chanted Rafa! Rafa! Rafa!
He’s pretty hot and hawt too.
Rafa ALSO won his semi-final.
Juan and Rafa played each other in the finals the next day.
Sadly, I wasn’t there the next day.
I would have been cheering for both of them.
(Because they’re both hawt, obviously.)
Spoiler Alert: Rafa won!
