Balboa Island – Newport Beach

I decided to stop by Balboa Island after my physical therapy appointment last Friday.

It’s pretty close to Paul Newman’s office.

I wanted to grab a few Balboa photos.

I usually try to avoid the more touristy spots in Orange County – especially during the summer months.

I convinced myself the worst of the crowds might not be arriving for another few days.

I was wrong.

On a positive note, the island was decked out for Fourth of July already.

(Balboa Island residents always decorate heavily for EVERY holiday.)

It’s fun to walk around such a festive environment even when there are tourists absolutely everywhere.

The frozen banana stand is always a tourist favorite, but the popularity of Arrested Development has made it a landmark.

Of course, once I fought the traffic to get on the island (and found parking),

I couldn’t leave without a few shots of the boats.

Why is it so relaxing to walk around looking at boats?

There’s something very calming about listening to the water lap against them.

I also have a *thing* for photographing candy stores.

I like all the colors and fake-feelings of old fashioned-ness.

Does that make sense?

I don’t even like candy.

(Except for chocolate which I’m pretty sure is a requirement of my hormones gender.)

I wonder what it’s like to own your very own private dock?

I imagine it’s really wonderful.

If I had my own dock,

I would sit on it singing Otis Redding’s Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay.

All day.

Every day.
