The weather is warm which means we have a lot of hummingbirds living in my yard.
Hummingbirds live in Orange County year round.
In addition, we have spring babies, plus some migrant hummingbirds, here in the summer.
It’s impossible to count them since they dart around so quickly.
My guess is we have around 50 living in our yard right now.
Here are four of them:
Here are another six:
Here are two males fighting over the feeder:
They have no fear of me, at all.
However, they don’t seem to like my dog, Mocha.
Fewer hummingbirds come around when Mocha is outside.
Sometimes they dart at her, as if they’re trying to chase her away.
She lunged at one the other day.
It was hovering in front of her face and dive-bombing her.
She *almost* caught it. (She thinks?)
When I refill their feeder they will often drink from it while it’s still in my hands.
I’ve told several people I feel like Snow White with the birds tweeting and flocking around me.
Who knew hummingbirds could act so domesticated?
How did I become The
Crazy Hummingbird Lady?
