Naples, Long Beach

I had a very busy, very fun, weekend.

I was spoiled rotten by friends.

On Friday night, I was invited to see Colbie Caillat in concert at the Pacific Amphitheatre.

(After the concert, we went to Houston’s to grab a bite to eat and continue our fun girl’s night.)

It was a great time.

On Saturday, I joined Miss Kay and a few other girlfriends boating in Naples, Long Beach.

I can’t believe I’ve lived in Southern California my entire life and never explored Naples before.

Prior to this weekend, when I’ve thought about Long Beach, I’ve always thought about 2nd Street where there are some cute shops.

Mainly, however, I’ve associated Long Beach with the big ugly oil plant (and numerous oil rigs) located there.

Who knew Long Beach also has some amazing beauty?

Naples consists of three islands in Alamitos Bay.

There are canals you can boat through (at a leisurely 3-5 mph).

It’s so fun to check out all the waterfront homes.

Everybody has a boat, the homes all have docks, and tons of people are partying and cruising around the canals and/or the harbor.

It’s such a fun atmosphere!

Here’s a view from “our” boat as we went through one of the canals:

A lot of people rent kayaks and “hydrobikes” to play with.

The hydrobikes look like a lot of fun unless/until the wind and current change.  If that happens, you’d suddenly have hours of going nowhere ahead of you.

Hydrobikes (water bikes) are popular to rent.

At one point, we (“we” means someone who isn’t me) docked the boat at a restaurant and went in to enjoy a cocktail.

Awhile later, we were back on the boat again – enjoying the beautiful day.

It was fun to go out into open water, too, where we could go fast.

Vroom!  Vroom!

We got splashed inside the boat – it felt great!

The boat we were on has a fantastic sound system so we had great tunes playing all day.

I sighed out loud when Landslide by Fleetwood Mac blared out right as the sun began setting.

(One of my all-time favorite songs!)

We also had a stash of waters, wine, champagne, and snacks on the boat.

I didn’t bring much camera gear with me, but I did have two lenses.

(And, Miss Kay was nice enough to share a couple of hers with me.)

We drove the boat over to take a few shots of kite surfers.

Wow!

Kite surfing sure looks like a lot of fun.

I loved watching them.

If I had two fully working arms, I think I’d try kite surfing.   I know it’s difficult, but it looks like so much fun.

Kite surfers go really fast, and they’re often airborne when they go over wakes and/or do tricks.

We also drove out to see a few big ships.

I’ve been on the Queen Mary many times in my life.

Still, I really enjoyed seeing the ship from a totally different perspective.

It was such a fun weekend!

A huge thank you to everyone who was a part of my various weekend festivities!

Oh, I’m so glad you had such a nice weekend! And I love the photos – I dunno about the kite surfing, but those hydrobikes (which I’ve never heard of) look like a lot of fun.

      Yep, I bet they’re fun.
And a weekend of fun was exactly what I needed.
It was kind of like a staycation ….!

My brother lives in Long Beach as does my brother in law and his wife and kids…. I really need to get out there but the whole California idea just wears me out thinking about it. Too much traffic is what keeps me away I guess. How do people deal with that and stay sane? Looks like you had a totally fun time!
