On the Boardwalk

I’ve been humming Under the Boardwalk (by The Drifters) since last Friday when I spent the afternoon shooting on “my” boardwalk.

Of course, the Balboa Peninsula Boardwalk (in Newport Beach) isn’t really *my* boardwalk, at all.

I wish it was!

(Maybe someone needs me to house-sit their beach house?)

I had a very enjoyable afternoon walking (and walking, and walking!!) while shooting the boardwalk.

Everyone I came across was extraordinarily friendly.

Some of them even “hammed it up” for me when they saw my camera.

Honestly, I could have just sat in one spot and taken photos of passers-by for hours.

I definitely will spend more time hanging out on Balboa in upcoming days.

(This is not an advertisement for Balboa.  I just had a spectacularly fun afternoon so I’m enthusiastic!)

Actually, I always dread going to the peninsula because the traffic getting there (and back) is horrific.

Don’t get me wrong – I go there fairly frequently, but I ALWAYS dread the traffic.

Last Friday I went right after PT and the traffic really wasn’t bad.

I suppose it’s all about timing.

It was a beautiful afternoon.

I walked for several miles.

I was carrying too much gear, but I definitely felt like I got my exercise for the day by the time I was done.

The middle of the day is the worst time for shooting.

Light is harsh.

But, I got a lot of photos I’m really happy with.

After all, real life happens in harsh light.

As nice as it might be if life were all sunrises and sunsets,

Sometimes, it’s more than that …

 Harsh light, or not.
