Our house has now been tented, fumigated, and untented.
The termites are dead and gone.
Or so I’m told, by responsible family members who are taking care of things.
I’m up the coast and don’t plan to return for a little bit longer.
(Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Cambria, Morro Bay, Santa Barbara again.)
I am SO irresponsible, I had ice cream as my one and only meal yesterday.
It was delicious.
I later had a glass or two of my favorite wine.
In my hotel room.
In spite of my best efforts, my face is a little too rosy from the sun and starting to peel (again).
Today, I plan to eat nothing but healthy foods to make up for my
misguided terrible dietary habits yesterday.
While I’ve been gone, I’ve visited with an old college friend and made a new friend too.
I’ve walked miles, and miles, and miles, and miles of the California coast – camera gear on my back.
I’ve taken a lot of photos … and many of them are beautiful.
I twisted my ankle on the sand my first night in Santa Barbara.
I was walking across the beach in the dark.
My backpack was heavy with gear and my tripod was hoisted up on my (good) shoulder.
I stepped wrong and felt my ankle give way.
Once in awhile it reminds me of this fact by sending a lightening rod of pain up my leg.
Most of the time, however, it’s fine.
My legs are bruised from climbing over rocks.
My arm and shoulder are protesting (loudly!) from overuse.
I need a portable Paul Newman.
Seriously, why don’t they invent those?
The coastline is breathtakingly beautiful, as always.
In other words,
The pain flare-up, the bumps and bruises ….?
Well, it’s all worth it.
(I’ll have photos for you soon.)
