The Dog Days of Summer

It’s been so hot here, I thought Mocha (my chocolate labrador) could use a break from the heat.

Saturday evening she jumped in the backseat of the (air conditioned) car and we headed to the beach.

Hey, I know how to party on a Saturday night!

So does Mocha …

That’s Mocha … chasing a dog who was chasing a ball it’s human had thrown into the ocean.

Mocha thought maybe she could get to the ball first?

But, alas, she wasn’t able to steal it.

I’ve been going for a lot of long walks and/or hikes in the evening hours lately.

The days have been too hot for outdoor time, and the evening skies have been beckoning me with their astonishing beauty.

(We still have monsoon clouds creating beautiful photography light.)

The sky was, again, beautiful on Saturday evening.

The clouds reflected on the sand and it often looked as if Mocha was walking on clouds.

Have I ever mentioned what a  goofy  happy dog she is?

She is always, always, wagging her tail and smiling.

Especially when she sees anyone with a DSLR camera.

I kid not.

My dog will approach anyone with a “big” camera and become adamant about making friends.

Apparently she thinks “all” photographers must be nice.

It turns out, most of them are.

Photographers usually smile at her and wonder why she is so interested in them, and their cameras.

Then they, frequently, ask her to pose for them and she obliges – happily.

(She also runs to my side every time she sees me holding my camera ….  Maybe she associates it with adventure time?)

Mocha’s got a pretty great dog life.

Lots of walks, and runs, and bones, and treats, and hikes, and naps, and a swimming pool, and sand to dig, and an ocean to frolic in …..

Life is pretty good – even when the days are stifling hot.

I suppose we would all be lucky to have the type of weekends Mocha does.

–>I love pictures of Mocha. She reminds me of our female chocolate lab, Sydney who we had to put down three years ago. Sydney was always smiling too.

      Labs are happy dogs.
      Mocha is just ridiculously goofy.
It’s hard not to smile around her …!
