A Sentence A Day

Happy 2014!

I’m beginning the new year with a new project.

I love the idea of journaling.

I also love (!!)  beautiful leather journals.

I have several.

I never want to ruin them by writing in them.

?????

Also,

Truth be told, I never seem to be able to stick with journaling for  more than a day  long.

It’s amazing I’m a “personal lifestyle” blogger, isn’t it?

My daughter and I decided to try something new.

Beginning today, we’re going to attempt to write one (just one!) sentence a day for the next five years.

Mind you, we aren’t attempting to write one important, earth-changing, sentence each day.

We will write any sentence we feel like writing.

Here are some possible examples:

•  I went to the beach today.

•  I worked to the point of exhaustion and I never want to work again.

•  Today I flew to San Francisco to shoot with some friends.

•  My significant other is annoying me.

•  My significant other is SO romantic.

•  I spent the day playing with a new lens.

•  The wind felt just perfect as it surrounded me tonight.

•  I did nothing but laundry today.

Get the idea?

It doesn’t matter if the one sentence per day is about a “significant” event or a trivial one.

The idea is to get into a regular routine of writing.

In addition, how fun will it be when our “books” (journals) are filled up with five year’s worth of one sentence memories?

Oh, how I wish I’d been writing one sentence per day every single day of my entire life.

(Childhood, teenage angst, the drama of college years, corporate working years, marriage, motherhood, etc.)

Can you imagine how fun it would be to look back at all of THAT?

You could do a similar journaling project with any type of notebook.

My daughter and I are using  One Line A Day – A Five Year Memory Book  for ours.

It’s a small book.

The size appealed to me because it will be easy to take along on my various travel journeys.

(It’s also the type of book you can begin on any day.  We just chose to begin on January first.)

I’m always full of good ideas for projects.

I’m really excited about this one.

One sentence per day …

Surely, I can do that!

What a good idea! That’s something everyone can manage – and even a single sentence, multiplied by er, what’s 365×5? could turn into something quite illuminating. Or at least entertaining! I’m going to join you…

I didn’t see this until today, but I love the idea and it sounds so realistic. I’ve tried journaling off and on forever, it seems, but I always end up in the “my life is so boring, I didn’t do anything interesting today” trap, and writing out all of my deepest emotions just seems too overwhelming to start (and what if someone else found it!). My mother-in-law has been writing a short note every day on a calendar or in a journal for years, and I always get a twinge of jealousy when she pulls one out and shows us some amazing detail or remembrance and I realize how many of the moments of my life I’ve forgotten and can never retrieve. I’d like to give one sentence per day a try. Thanks for the idea!

      You’re welcome.
Your experience with attempted journaling sounds a lot like mine!
