Technologically Crippled

Well, I’m sure glad I back up my computer every week.

After a day of intermittent problems, yesterday morning my laptop showed me nothing but a white, blank, screen.

Is there anything worse than a broken computer?

OK, a broken car and/or phone are just as bad.

I’m hen pecking this post on an iPad.

Please excuse typos – I’m not used to typing on an iPad.

I also have no idea what the formatting will look like once this publishes.

An Apple genius told me my laptop has a bad video card.

The video card is attached to the logic board so I think they replace the whole thing.

The good news?

Apple Care covers the cost completely – yay!!!

The bad news?

I might be computer-less for up to 5 days.

(Let’s hope it doesn’t take that long!)

Posting here on 24 might be sporadic over the next few days.

I will be trying to update on Facebook at least once each day via my phone.

This seems like a good time to remind you to back up your computer frequently.

I back up my computer once every week, no matter what.

In addition, I back it up every time I upload photos.

It’s important folks!

    Egads, you poor thing.

    I use Carbonite, which backs up my files automatically. When my last laptop died, all I had to do was reinstall my applications (a pain in the butt, but it gave me an opportunity to upgrade those that needed it) and have Carbonite reinstate my files. It kept the whole thing from being a nightmare.

      I’ve got 2 Drobos I use.
      Fortunately, everything is backed up.
      It’s just very difficult to get any work done until I get my computer back.
      Sigh.

    Glad it’s fixable. I had to have a new hard drive installed a few months ago. What a pain!!!

    Our MacStore has a trade-in program so I use that every couple years to upgrade my iMac. With the value they place on my current system, it really works out pretty well for me.
    Backup backup backup! It should be everyone’s mantra.

      That’s interesting about the trade in deal.
      I’ll have to inquire and find out if they do that in all the stores.
      My computer is only two and a half years old but technology is changing at such a fast pace!

    I had a PC once and it crashed. Although they were able to recover some of my photos they were no longer in any kind of order so it is extremely painful to find any certain photo. I purchase an external hard drive for the MACbook I have now but I am technically challenged when backing up my photos to it. I currently have 3 iPhotos files and have no idea how it happened. I can totally relate to your misery.

      Technology can be exasperating. Backing up a Mac is pretty easy though – you just click on the little clock in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
