Backyard Gardens

My backyard is fairly large by Orange County standards.

That means, for most of you, it’s a small backyard.

Fortunately, there’s nothing but a canyon behind my house so it seems like our yard extends into the wilderness.

Wilderness tends to move right into my backyard too.

There are four black phoebe babies in a nest in my swimming pool grotto right now.

If you look closely you can see three beaks in this photo – the beaks are yellow.

The baby birds themselves are just balls of fluff at this point.

I mentioned in an earlier post, I recently bought a dahlia for my backyard.

Isn’t it pretty?

I love dahlias!

Fingers crossed I don’t kill it.

I’m looking forward to more dahlia flowers … there are several buds getting ready to bloom.

And, of course, I seem to house all the hummingbirds in Orange County …?

They love my backyard.

(And I love photographing them so I guess it’s a win-win.)

The jacarandas are still blooming too.

I’m lucky I get to enjoy so much “nature” even while I’m just hanging out at home.

Your hummingbird photos are so lovely. I love the color palate in the one above.
