Back Home Again

Thank you for all the well wishes.

I apologize for not being able to thank you individually.

I was discharged from the hospital and I’m back home again.

My doctor was exceedingly pleased with how my surgery went.

He removed 3 inches of damaged tendon and did some other stuff too.

The staff at the hospital were very kind and helpful.

My right arm is in a sling so I’m using a dictation app to write.

I have a lot of medical rental equipment at home to help me be more comfortable.

The post surgery pain is very manageable.  I’ve been pleasantly surprised.

I expected to be in much more pain than I am.

I’m not allowed to take a shower for two weeks which totally sucks.

I’m taking daily “sponge baths” and washing my hair in the kitchen sink.

I’ve been sleeping more than normal which, I suppose, is to be expected.

I realize I have weeks of recovery and physical therapy still ahead of me, but I’m very optimistic about where I’ll be two months from now.

Fred has been an absolute love.

He has been snuggling me and been very sweet.

He is very intuitive in regard to my arm and pain level.

As much as I was dreading this surgery,

I’m feeling very positive about the results.

I’m quite sure I’ll have a better quality of life as a result of having gone through it.

I’ll try to write more next week.

Right now I’m going to go take another nap.

Thank you again for all the well wishes!

Glad you are home. Not being able to shower sucks, but not as much as trying to wash yourself and slipping, I guess. 🙂 I’m glad the pain levels are not as bad as expected, and pray for a quick recovery.

So wonderful to hear that you’re home and feeling better than you expected!! That’s wonderful news! And Fred…..his compassion is just amazing….what a fabulous fellow he is.

No shower for 2 weeks…been there, done that. Well kind of. Here’s the scoop: had back surgery planned and one thing the nurse mentioned was no shower afterward for 2 weeks. I knew I absolutely.could.not.do.that (and couldn’t lean over to wash hair in a sink), so I came up with an alternative plan. Items on the ‘to buy’ list were Glad freezer press and seal wrap, a large plastic paint drop cloth, and a rubber shower mat with suction thingies on the bottom. Items on the ‘have at home’ list were a person to help and a shower with a seat and a shower head with a hose. So…several days after surgery and a REALLY bad case of bed head, it was time for a shower. Used the press and seal to completely cover surgical bandaids and several inches past that, draped the drop cloth around my neck like a poncho, and got in the shower (with rubber bath mat in place). Of course my helper was there the whole time assisting. It was heaven to get my hair washed and to feel clean again! I don’t know if this would work for you….just thought I’d mention it. Used the press and seal stuff because a physical therapist had recommended it for a family member when they had shoulder surgery. I think we might have even used waterproof tape at the edges of the plastic wrap when he had shoulder repaired.
